Kim Dae Jung Voids Pledge on Candidacy

SEOUL, South Korea — Kim Dae Jung withdrew his pledge Friday not to run for president, but said he will wait to decide on whether to run until after he has heard “. . . more about public opinion.”
Kim and Kim Young Sam, the nation’s best-known opposition leaders, have said they will resolve the candidacy issue through negotiation to avoid a split in the race against Roh Tae Woo, the government party nominee.
