U.S. Extends Import Restraints on Some Steels

President Reagan announced the extension to Sept. 30, 1989, of his import restraint program covering certain specialty steels. The President’s continuing import restraint program specifies quantitative limitations, including a 3% annual growth factor, for stainless bar, stainless rod and alloy tool steels. Declining tariffs, beginning at 3% in the first year, will be applied to stainless sheet, strip and plate steels.
