Baker Hughes posted a loss of $41.2 million for its third quarter. The Houston company, formed in April, said that compared to the year-ago quarter, when Baker and Hughes were separate entities, the operating loss has declined by about $18 million based on a revenue increase of about $18 million. The company said succeeding quarters should show further progress, because of increasing activity in petroleum markets.
