Durable Goods Orders Up Thanks to Military

WASHINGTON — Orders for “big ticket” durable goods climbed 1.4% in June, the biggest increase in three months, but only because of a sharp rise in demand in military hardware, the government said today.
Without the big increase in defense, orders would not have risen at all in June following a 1.6% advance in the civilian categories in May, the Commerce Department said.
