Bill Elliott won his sixth consecutive pole position at Alabama International Motor Speedway in Talladega, Ala., earning the top qualifying spot for the Talladega 500 with a fast lap of 203.827 miles per hour.
Dale Earnhardt, the defending Winston Cup champion and this year’s runaway point leader, was second at 203.459 m.p.h., followed by rookie star Davey Allison, Bobby’s son, at 203.079, three-time Winston Cup champion Darrell Waltrip at 202.474 and Terry Labonte, another former series champion, at 202.435.
