Datum Inc., an Anaheim-based manufacturer of precision timing devices, said it has terminated discussions with Oak Industries of San Diego to buy a Canadian quartz crystal subsidiary.
In May, Datum agreed to purchase Croven Crystals Ltd., a quartz operation in Whitby, Ontario, for an undisclosed sum. Oak had acquired Croven just a month earlier as part of its purchase of Electronic Technologies Inc. of New York.
Datum Chairman Louis Horwitz said the agreement was scuttled because Datum eventually decided that it would be unable to increase Croven’s sales at a sufficient rate to justify the cost of acquiring the company.
