Official Urges Utility to Halt Nofziger Pay

MINEOLA, N.Y. — The head of the State Consumer Protection Board said Sunday he has asked the Public Service Commission to order Long Island Lighting Co. to stop paying a $5,000-a-month lobbying fee to former White House political director Lyn Nofziger.
“There is no justification for LILCO to spend any ratepayer money--even $5,000 a month--on a firm like Nofziger & Bragg, particularly since the firm apparently has never provided any written work product in the four years it has worked for LILCO,” charged board Executive Director Richard Kessel in a written statement.
Nofziger initially was paid $20,000 a month in his lobbying effort for LILCO, but the fee was reduced recently to $5,000.
Nofziger has pleaded not guilty to charges of violating federal ethics laws as a lobbyist for Wedtech Corp., the scandal-ridden Bronx defense contractor. His business, Nofziger & Bragg, is up for sale.
