The Nation : Space Policy Review Told

The White House is conducting a complete review of the American space program that could affect the spending of billions of dollars over the next two decades, Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine said. The magazine reported that the National Security Council and the Office of Science and Technology Policy believe the reassessment is needed because of several issues, including “Soviet successes and the growing concern about a lack of U.S. space leadership and goals.” The National Aeronautics and Space Administration and some other agencies oppose a full reassessment, Aviation Week says, because it could delay decisions on programs in development.
