TV RATINGS

Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

NBC and CBS reruns duked it out for the top Nielsen spots this past week (ending July 26), with NBC the overall winner once again: Its average points/share were 11.6/23, while CBS came in second (10.6/21) and ABC last (9.1/18). NBC’s “The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd” regained its usual position in the Top 10 (at No. 8) after last week’s off performance. It remains the only new show in the top 10 spots.

* Meanwhile, audiences were sending mixed messages to Nielsen about Tuesday night’s programming on CBS. “An Enemy Among Us,” the hour-long special on AIDS among teens, finished a dismal 50th, in spite of wide interest and concern about the disease. But the “Miss Teen USA” pageant, broadcast immediately after “Enemy,” wound up finishing 16th, with almost double the audience share. The complete Nielsen list appears on Page 11. (One ratings point equals 874,000 homes; audience share refers to percentage of sets tuned to a program).
