SAN DIEGO — Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. will move its 325-person personal insurance division office to San Diego from Spokane, Wash., during the first quarter of 1988, the company said Wednesday.
Most of Fireman’s 325 employees in Spokane are expected to make the move to San Diego, according to Fireman’s spokesman John Kozero. The move will begin early in 1988 and is expected to be completed during the first quarter.
Employment levels in San Diego could rise beyond the initial 325 persons because the existing Western Personal Lines Center will be expanded to serve as the Western regional office for the Fireman’s Fund Personal Insurance division, Kozero said. However, the company has “no firm projections on future employment,” Kozero said.
Fireman’s linked the relocation to “recent changes in the company’s organizational structure.”
Fireman’s is in the process of negotiating for office space in San Diego but declined to say where the new office would be located. The division now occupies an 80,000-square-foot building in Spokane.
Novato-based Fireman’s Fund Insurance Cos. is a large property and casualty company that generates 20% of its premium revenue from personal insurance products. American Express owns about 25% of Fireman’s Fund Corp., the parent company of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co.
