The Anaheim City Council voted 3 to 2 to fire longtime City Manager William O. Talley after a four-hour closed session that council members said later was marked by heated exchanges and harsh denunciations. Talley, 54, will remain in his job until Sept. 1 because the City Charter requires that he be given a 30-day notice. The council did not announce a decision on Talley’s replacement. Talley, who had been city manager of Orange County’s largest city for 11 years, had been targeted for dismissal by the newly elected council majority, which had complained about his management style and his handling of several lawsuits, including a dispute with the California Angels over planned modifications at Anaheim Stadium.
