Farrakhan Postpones Aug. 8 Talk

Louis Farrakhan has postponed a controversial speech scheduled Aug. 8 at the Los Angeles Convention Center until the Muslim minister’s followers can complete a petition drive to determine the level of support for him in the black community, an aide said today.

“Minister Farrakhan will abide by the decision of the black people of Los Angeles,” aide Abdul Allah Muhammad said. “If they decide that they want him to come, then he will come despite the denunciation of the mayor or any resolutions by the City Council, the Board of Supervisors or any other groups,” Muhammad said. Mayor Tom Bradley and other elected officials have denounced Farrakhan for alleged anti-Semitic and racist leanings.
