Westwood : UCLA Construction to Begin

Construction will begin next week on a UCLA engineering building that is expected to relieve pressure on overcrowded classrooms and add improved facilities for advanced technology research.
The five-story building is scheduled to be completed in November, 1989, at a cost of $49 million.
The building will house the departments of electrical and mechanical engineering and aerospace and nuclear engineering, along with the school’s centers for high frequency electronics and fusion engineering.
The building is designed to allow for high-technology studies. One section of the first floor will especially constructed to eliminate vibrations that would disturb experiments involving semiconductors, lasers and fusion engineering.
The structure is being built on a former parking lot in the center of campus.
