Larry L. Rodberg, former chief executive of three air freight companies, has been appointed to the board of Bomed Medical Manufacturing Ltd., an Irvine-based producer of heart-monitoring equipment. Rodberg replaces retiring board member Theodore R. Gillenwaters.
“Mr. Rodberg has a track record of bringing companies from their infancy to a mature level,” said Bo Sramek, chairman and chief executive officer of Bomed.
Rodberg, 65, said Bomed has a “great product, but the company hasn’t had the marketing or sales thrust that it needs to be successful.” He said he will devote much of his attention to enhancing the company’s marketing efforts.
Rodberg is currently an adviser to Eden Industries Corp., a Newport Beach manufacturer of custom containers that he founded in 1985.
Rodberg previously founded Burlington Northern Air Freight Inc. of Irvine, which was sold for $177 million in 1982 to Pittston Co. in Greenwich, Conn. In 1984, he became chairman and chief executive officer of Air Express International Corp. in Darien, Conn. Two years later, he was named president and chief executive officer of Torrance-based WTC Air Freight Inc. and stayed with the company until it was sold to Pittston for $60 million in early 1987.
