Local News in Brief : Deputy D.A. Charged

A Los Angeles County deputy district attorney who became embroiled in a controversy with the prosecutor who succeeded him in the “Twilight Zone” case was charged Thursday with misdemeanor lewd conduct for allegedly having sex with a prostitute in his car.
Arraignment for Gary P. Kesselman was scheduled Nov. 3 in Los Angeles Municipal Court. If convicted, Kesselman, 45, could be sentenced to six months in County Jail and fined $1,000. Prosecutors filed the same charge against reputed prostitute Bonnie Taylor, 23, who was with Kesselman early Wednesday when the two were arrested in South-Central Los Angeles.
Assistant Dist. Atty. Curt Livesay said Wednesday that an internal investigation has begun to see if disciplinary charges should be filed against Kesselman.
In a $7-million federal suit filed last month, Kesselman accused his bosses of pressuring him to perjure himself on the witness stand during the “Twilight Zone” trial.
