Nepal Hit the Spot
Virginia Barton is my kind of traveler. Nepal was a similar adventure for my fiancee and me in 1978. We trekked 200 miles in 20 days, with rewards most travelers can never imagine. Your readers considering this adventure should consider enhancement of their trip with 1) a Polaroid camera for “automatic” photos of Nepali friends. A big hit! 2) Inexpensive ballpoint pens for schoolchildren who will practice their English with you. 3) American cigarettes for porters and Sherpas, an evening reward for a day of service with a smile. This becomes a campfire ritual. 4) An open mind to try to comprehend the mystery of this land, mountains and people.
