The manager of a San Marcos feed store was injured Friday afternoon when a pipe bomb he was building accidentally exploded, a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said.
Kenneth Lewis Tynan, 31, was listed in stable condition late Friday at Palomar Hospital, where he underwent surgery for injuries to his left hand and fingers, as well as for burns to his face, chest and arms.
Tynan was hurt in a 2:43 p.m. explosion when he was hammering a homemade pipe bomb in the back of Gaar’s Feed Store, 263 E. Carmel St., the sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
Investigators found two pounds of black powder and other bomb-making equipment.
The spokeswoman said Tynan lived at the feed store.
