Imagine President Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, leader of the Evil Empire, smiling and joking as they wander around the White House Rose Garden. Imagine a treaty between these two sworn enemies that actually eliminates a whole class of nuclear missiles--just imagine!
Imagine a treaty that, for the first time since the mad plunge toward mass suicide that is the arms race, actually starts reducing the number of missiles.
Imagine the two leaders talking together about the need for a “new way of thinking,” the need to see each other as vastly different yet not incompatible neighbors on the single block that is our planet Earth.
Imagine them talking about “planting a sapling” of hope that with patience and care will grow into a mighty tree of peace to shade our planet from hate and destruction. Just imagine!
