East Germany has freed all but one of scores of dissidents jailed after an abortive protest march in East Berlin last month, Protestant church sources in East Berlin said. The remaining detainee, a 35-year-old woman sentenced to six months in prison for “riotous assembly” in connection with the January protest, is expected to be released today, the sources said. About 200 people were detained Jan. 17 when they tried to join an official Communist Party march in East Berlin and hoist their own protest banners. The march, led by East German leader Erich Honecker, commemorated two German revolutionaries murdered in 1919.
