Two women were injured in a fire early Tuesday in an apartment building in the 3100 block of National Avenue in Logan Heights, a Fire Department spokesman said.
It took 25 firefighters half an hour to control the fire, which caused $35,000 in damage and forced 38 people to evacuate the building.
Fire officials said the fire was caused by smoking materials in a first-floor apartment and spread to the second story.
Two women were treated at UC San Diego Medical Center and released.
