Prep Softball : Fountain Valley Sweeps Villa Park

Shannon Dolan had three hits and three runs batted in as Fountain Valley High School swept a doubleheader from Villa Park, 5-1, 5-0, in nonleague softball Thursday at Fountain Valley.
Dolan drove in two runs during the first game on a pair of hits. She then singled home a run in the second game.
Ray Rice threw a three-hit shutout, striking out nine, in the first game for Fountain Valley (3-1). Marnie Sukla struck out five for the victory in the first game.
Orange Lutheran 9, Liberty Christian 5--Freshmen Stacie Charlton and Stacie Eskew each had three hits to lead Orange Lutheran (3-) at Tewinkle Park. Charlton drove in two runs and Eskew had one RBI. Eskew (3-0) struck out five batters. Jenny Engstrom had two hits and one RBI for Liberty Christian (0-2).
La Quinta 8, Irvine 3 (eight innings)--At Harvard Park, Irvine (0-1) led, 3-0, after six innings but made three errors that led to three unearned runs in the seventh and five errors that led to five unearned runs in the eighth. Sherry Williams went the distance, striking out four, for La Quinta (1-1), and Deedra Cordial had two hits. Jennifer Brundage (0-1) did not give up an earned run but took the loss. Brundage struck out 10 batters. Stacey Osso had two hits for Irvine.
