‘Fatal’ Umbrella
As an organization representing the Taiwanese American community in Southern California, the Taiwanese American Citizens League wants to protest the intentional defamation on Taiwan products by Paramount Pictures in the film “Fatal Attraction” in which a broken umbrella is referred to as a product of Taiwan.
The umbrellas produced in Taiwan, which are durable and attractive, can easily be found in many fashionable stores here in the United States. They are not easily broken as depicted in the movie.
We consider that the producers and screenwriters of “Fatal Attraction” have a misconception of Taiwan products. We urge Paramount Pictures to publicly apologize for and take means to retract this statement.
