Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. has reopened talks with Bridgestone Corp. after the Firestone board asked the firm to consider alternatives to a $1.9-billion takeover bid by Italian manufacturer Pirelli. Firestone said Pirelli’s offer of $58 a share had killed earlier plans to sell most of the Firestone tire-making business to Bridgestone. Chicago-based Firestone announced a tentative deal last month to sell three-quarters of its tire-making business to Bridgestone of Japan for about $1.25 billion.
