The Prado Museum in Madrid will receive 600 to 700 pieces from the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection--one of the world’s richest private art collections, it was reported Thursday. The works, valued collectively at more than $1 billion, are owned by Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, a Dutch-born financier who currently resides in a museum-like home in Switzerland. The collection, which contains works by Van Gogh, Picasso, Degas, Chagall, Gauguin, Monet, Rembrandt, Cezanne and Americans Winslow Homer and Thomas Cole, will be housed at the Villahermosa Palace.
