** “The Living Daylights.” CBS/Fox. $89.98.
Sean Connery won the job of James Bond only after Cary Grant, David Niven and Tom Courtney turned it down. So Timothy Dalton shouldn’t feel too slighted about being asked to fill the most recent vacancy after Pierce Brosnan was unable to accept. Dalton is more in the Connery-Bond mold than either Brosnan or Roger Moore, who held the job longest. The cast change is refreshing, but Dalton and the AIDS-mandated cutdown in Bond’s hit-and-run sex life are the only elements that distinguish this from any of the recent gimmicky episodes.
