College Spring Sports : Pierce Whips Moorpark in Tennis, 9-0

Bill Kearsley and Mauricio Quiroga led the Pierce College men’s tennis team to a convincing 9-0 win over Moorpark in Western State Conference play Thursday at Pierce.
Kearsley, the Brahmas’ No. 1 singles player, won his singles match, 6-3, 6-4, then teamed with Quiroga to win No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-2. Quiroga, the No. 3 singles player, won his match, 6-3, 6-2.
Sang Kim, Jonathan Holiday, Tony Cohen, and Sam Pitts all won singles matches for Pierce and combined to sweep the doubles matches. Pierce is 8-0 in conference play, 9-0 overall.
BASEBALL
Pierce 5, Bakersfield 4--Jim Doushgounian’s fourth-inning ground out scored Dave Clemons with the winning run as Pierce (9-5, 3-3 in conference play) recorded a Western State Conference win at Pierce.
Clemons was 3 for 3 and scored two runs. Court Wright pitched a four-hit, complete game victory. All of Bakersfield’s runs were unearned.
Eric Tosoonian hit his first home run for Pierce. Bakersfield dropped to 3-3 in league play.
Valley 11, L.A. City College 4--Marc Sallin hit a two-run home run and Sean Thompson doubled and singled in a run for host Valley in a Southern California Conference game that was called after eight innings because of darkness.
Thompson has 13 hits and 12 RBIs in the past 5 games. The Monarchs (8-9, 5-0) have won four consecutive games.
Chris Gonzales had three of Valley’s 14 hits. Jose Banuelos gave up five hits and one earned run in going the distance. He struck out five in improving to 3-1.
SOFTBALL
Cal Lutheran 10-9, Pacific Christian 3-0--Rosa Jimenez pitched a complete game three-hitter in the first game and was 2 for 3 with an RBI in the second as Cal Lutheran swept a nonconference doubleheader at Cal Lutheran.
Jimenez (4-3) scattered three singles and had 11 strikeouts and Terry Rupe (3 for 4, 2 RBIs), Kim White (2 for 3, 2 RBIs) and Jill Anderson (2 for 4, 2 RBIs) provided the offensive punch.
In the second game, DeeAndra Pilkington struck out 10 and surrendered one hit. The game was called after five innings because of an eight-run rule. Joy Fuller was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.
Cal Lutheran is 13-6. Pacific Christian is 0-4.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
CS Northridge d. Chapman 9-0-- Allison Kincaid and Missy Conn each won singles matches and paired up to win No. 1 doubles as the Matadores blanked Chapman at Chapman in California Collegiate Athletic Assn. play.
Northridge improves to 6-1 in conference play, 6-6 overall.
