Emmy Award-winning TV chef Julia Child was in good condition after undergoing surgery on a hip she fractured by tripping over a phone cord. The 76-year-old hostess of public television’s long-running “The French Chef” series was in good spirits after surgery at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, a nursing supervisor said. “Her appetite is not great though it’s about normal for someone who has just had surgery,” said hospital spokeswoman Janet O’Neill, adding that “the hospital food here is wonderful.”
