It will be an all-Pierce College singles final after Bill Kearsley and Sang Kim won semifinal matches in the Western State Conference tennis tournament with straight-set victories Saturday at Pierce.
Kearsley, the WSC Player of the Year and Pierce’s No. 1 player, will play No. 2 Kim for the WSC title Tuesday at Pierce.
In the semifinals, Kearsley defeated Lance Kronberg of Santa Barbara, 6-1, 6-2, and Kim ousted Peter Killian, also of Santa Barbara, 6-4, 6-1.
Kearsley , who was undefeated in 14 conference matches, was named to the All-WSC first team. Kim, who is Kearsley’s doubles partner in the tournament, made the all-conference second team.
“They have played each other enough times to know what to expect,” Pierce Coach Paul Xanthos said. “They’re both going to do their best to beat each other, but after the match they’ll be friends.”
Pierce (17-1-1), which shared the conference dual-meet title with Santa Barbara, won its 12th consecutive WSC tournament title. Santa Barbara placed second followed by Moorpark, Glendale and Cuesta.
