The novelist whose work inspired such films as “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” “The Old Man and the Sea,” “The Sun Also Rises” and “A Farewell to Arms” is now the subject of a movie himself: “Hemingway.”
Stacy Keach stars as Ernest Hemingway in the six-hour TV production, which will air in two parts on KCOP Channel 13. Part 1 will be shown Tuesday and again Saturday; Part 2 is scheduled for May 10, with a repeat May 14. All telecasts are 8-11 p.m.
The movie chronicles Hemingway’s turbulent life as he travels through four marriages and some of the world’s most exotic locales, winning a Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for literature along the way. The wives are portrayed by Josephine Chaplin, Marisa Berenson, Lisa Banes and Pamela Reed.
Written and directed by Bernhard Sinkel, the movie is based on Carlos Baker’s “Ernest Hemingway: A Life Story” and “Ernest Hemingway--Collected Letters 1917-1961.” Much of it was shot on location in Europe.
