Swiss chocolate manufacturer Jacobs Suchard AG has snapped up still more shares in British candy maker Rowntree PLC, which Swiss foods giant Nestle SA has said it wants to buy. Suchard now owns more than 20% of Rowntree, which makes the Kit Kat candy bars, the Swiss firm’s broker, S. G. Warburg Securities, said. Nestle, meanwhile, is bidding $3.9 billion to buy Rowntree, and Suchard has not said whether it plans a formal counteroffer. Two weeks ago, Suchard bought nearly 15% of Rowntree for $304 million, buying millions of shares in the space of minutes.
