Carroll Righter, the dean of American astrologers whose fascination with the stars led him into a lengthy career that saw his column published in more than 200 newspapers, including The Times, is dead, it was learned today.
His business manager, Thomas S. Pierson, said the veteran stargazer was 88 when he died of the complications of advanced age at St. John’s Medical Center in Santa Monica on Sunday.
Righter was a former Philadelphia lawyer who moved West in the 1930s for health reasons and became personal astrologer to a host of Hollywood stars before embarking on his column, which also appeared in many publications in Europe and elsewhere.
