I recently saw a commercial for an episode of “Head of the Class” which upset me very much. The commercial’s announcer said the show’s subject would be “Nightmare on Nerd Street.” That was not the first time I have heard the show’s students referred to as nerds. I happen to be a 15-year-old who attends a highly gifted magnet (school), and neither I nor any of my friends is a nerd. There is no reason to call people nerds just because they are smart, and this is a typical example of prejudicial stereotyping.
