Lester Piggott, the former champion English jockey now serving a prison term for tax evasion, has been forced to forfeit the Order of the British Empire.
The directive was handed down by Queen Elizabeth II on the recommendation of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, officials said.
Piggott, an 11-time national champion jockey, was given the award in 1975 by the queen. Last October, he was sentenced to three years in prison for tax evasion.
