HERZLIYA, Israel — An explosion in a pizzeria injured 22 Israelis and overturned cars and trucks today in this coastal resort, hospital officials said. Police said the blast was caused by a gas leak. They were investigating whether it was accidental.
“Apparently this was not a terrorist act, but one can always ask why the gas leaked,” Tel Aviv Police Chief Yigal Marcus said on Israel army radio. “Did someone leave the tap open on purpose? Did someone forget? . . . This we can’t determine for sure.”
