Edward M. Saxton, 79, Writer, Former Scout Executive, Dies

Memorial services will be held Wednesday for Edward M. Saxton, 79, of San Juan Capistrano, widely known Southern California Boy Scout executive and professional writer who, at the age of 67, attained a state credential to teach writing in the Capistrano Unified School District’s adult education program.
The services will be at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Episcopal Church. Saxton died on Saturday.
He had been active in Scouting for 65 years, serving as executive in both the San Bernardino and Glendale offices. After retiring from Scout work, he returned to Chapman College at the age of 62 to study writing, turning out a number of nature and wilderness articles for local newspapers and magazines before receiving his teaching credential.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; a son, Edward T.; a daughter, Sharon Jane Davies, and four grandchildren.
