‘Ole Miss’ Black Frat House Burns

OXFORD, Miss. — Fire today destroyed what was to be the first black fraternity house at the University of Mississippi. The cause of the blaze at the vacant house is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office, said Fire Capt. Ronnie Mills.
The 20 Phi Beta Sigma fraternity members had planned to move in to the two-story house later this month after winning approval to become the first blacks among the residents of the 16 antebellum-style houses on Fraternity Row.
