Anaheim residents are being asked to show their commitment to fight crime by turning on their outside lights tonight as part of the National Night Out campaign.
In its fifth year, National Night Out will involve all 50 states and a estimated 17 million people. In Anaheim, the campaign is being organized by police and the California Angels.
Anaheim observances include a kick-off party today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Police Department, 425 S. Harbor Blvd. The event will feature police and fire vehicle displays, a giant balloon release, free ice cream and snow cones, face painting and fingerprinting of children. A coloring contest will also be held so children can compete for free night lights.
The Police Department will also visit Anaheim Senior Citizen Centers and distribute free light bulbs.
