*** “The Garden of Delights.”
Connoisseur. $69.95. 1970.
A scintillating satire from Spain’s Carlos Saura in which a powerful industrialist (Jose Luis Lopez Vazquez), having suffered brain damage in a car crash, is the only person who knows the name of a Swiss bank and the number of an account where he has stashed millions now urgently needed to tide over his financially threatened company. This predicament, a source of rich, dark humor, is also a point of departure for Saura and his co-writer Rafael Azcona to make a serious examination of a man’s life and its meaning--or lack of it.
