Boris Becker’s match with top-ranked Mats Wilander--the most eagerly awaited match of the Davis Cup tennis final between West Germany and Sweden--could be rendered meaningless because of the draw.

Becker was drawn to play second in both of his singles matches so that his Sunday afternoon appointment with Wilander, the last event of the 5-match final, can influence the outcome only if West Germany and favored Sweden are tied 2-2.

Becker’s first singles match against Stefan Edberg, who beat the West German in this year’s Wimbledon final, could be the key match of the 3-day Davis Cup final being played on indoor clay courts at Gothenburg, Sweden.
