A 23-year-old sailor was fatally stabbed late Thursday night in downtown San Diego, police reported.
The sailor, whose name was withheld pending the notification of his family, was stabbed at about 11:21 p.m. near the Qwik-Korner store in the 1100 block of C Street, police said.
He was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital shortly after midnight.
A store employee told police that an unidentified man had stabbed the victim near the trolley stop in front of the store.
“The stabbing took place at the trolley station. He just came in here and said he had been stabbed and asked for help and then collapsed,” said store manager Mel Gavin.
Police know of no motive and have no suspects.
