Gee Gee Gem won her first stakes and fourth race in five starts, leading wire to wire to win the California Sires for 2-year-old fillies Friday at Los Alamitos.
Trained by Tim Diliberto, Gee Gee Gem paced the mile in 2:00 3/5 over a good track for the winner’s share of the $20,000 purse. Sent off as the 2-1 second choice, she paid $6.20, $2.60 and $2.20.
Finishing second, well up the rail, was LA Law, part of the favored Schwartz, Scher and Sottile entry. Jam I Am was second most of the way, then held third.
The $2 exacta paid $11.
