The Massachusetts Port Authority voted to rescind controversial new landing fees designed to reduce congestion at Logan International Airport at Boston, but also agreed to seek court approval to reinstate the fees. The first-in-the-nation fee schedule, which took effect July 1 at Logan, made it more expensive to land smaller aircraft that are blamed for much of the congestion at Logan. The U.S. Transportation Department ruled last week, however, that the new fees were unfair and discriminatory toward the smaller aircraft and gave the port authority seven days to either rescind them or face a cutoff in federal funding.
