SPORTS : Diver Kimball Under Suicide Watch

TAMPA, Fla. — Olympic diver Bruce Kimball was under a suicide watch in his jail cell today, the day after unexpectedly pleading guilty to manslaughter by drunk driving in the deaths of two teen-agers, authorities said.

Jailers at Hillsborough County Jail checked on Kimball every 15 minutes because of warnings from his lawyers that he might be suicidal. They cited a series of psychiatric tests showing he has been developing suicidal tendencies. “We told the judge we were seriously concerned about his emotional state, and we told him of our concerns about self-destructive behavior,” lawyer Frank Quesada said.
