Soul singer James Brown pleaded guilty to seven misdemeanor charges Monday in Augusta, Ga., and was sentenced to six more years in prison, but they will be served concurrently with a six-year term he already is serving at a South Carolina prison. Brown also was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 90 days’ probation. The sentences in the two states result from the same Sept. 24 incident, when the self-proclaimed “Godfather of Soul” burst into an insurance seminar with a shotgun and then led police on a chase along the Georgia-South Carolina border. Brown pleaded guilty to having no state license tag, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, attempting to elude police, carrying a deadly weapon to a public gathering, simple assault and making an improper lane change. The entertainer also pleaded no contest to driving under the influence. A blood test conducted after Brown’s arrest allegedly found traces of the drug PCB. Earlier Monday, Brown’s wife, Adrienne, received probation and a $600 fine after pleading no contest to a charge of driving under the influence. The incidents involving Brown and his wife were not related, although both appeared at the same hearing.
