Lincoln May End Soccer Season

SAN DIEGO — Lincoln High School canceled its boys’ soccer game with Christian Tuesday and might forfeit the remainder of its season because of an incident Friday after its game with Crawford, Lincoln principal Dr. Ruby Cremaschi-Schwimmer said.
Cremaschi-Schwimmer said she met Tuesday with Dr. Mark Ryan, Lincoln’s coach; Wendell Bass, Lincoln’s athletic director; Kendall Webb, the San Diego Section commissioner and Wayne DeBate, the secondary athletics manager of San Diego city schools, and suggested the program be discontinued for the remainder of the season.
“We’re strongly considering canceling the season,” she said. “There have been some problems with soccer in general on the international scene. We’re not sure if it’s something that’s a continuation of the neighborhood or soccer in general.”
After the game (which Crawford won, 7-1) Wayne Rosenberger, Crawford’s coach, said, “Evidently someone got real bent out of shape. There were some people waiting for us as a group out on the street.”
Other than a Crawford player who was hit on the ankle by a thrown rock, no one was hurt. But, Rosenberger said, a couple of cars were kicked, and rocks were thrown at them.
