A nurse’s assistant was ordered Tuesday to stand trial for rape in an attack on a comatose 11-year-old girl at a rehabilitation center.
Noel Sanchez, 22, of San Diego was bound over for trial on charges of rape with a foreign object and child molestation.
San Diego Municipal Judge Frank Brown set a March 1 arraignment and trial setting in Superior Court and allowed bail to remain at $100,000. Sanchez remains in custody.
The girl suffered head injuries in an Oct. 2 car accident and was confined at the Lake Erie Institute of Rehabilitation, which occupies a wing at Alvarado Convalescent and Rehabilitation Hospital.
A doctor testified Friday that an injury to the girl’s genitals could not have occurred in the car accident because it had not been discovered earlier.
