SPANISH FORK, Utah — An explosion and fireball rocked an explosives plant early today, injuring seven people and damaging four buildings in a blast felt 10 miles away, authorities said.
The 6:37 a.m. explosion at the Trojan Corp. explosives plant at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon was felt as far away as Provo, about 10 miles to the north, and there were several reports of cracked windows in Spanish Fork and Mapleton, said Utah County sheriff’s Sgt. Craig Turner. A bus carrying three workers was about 50 yards away when the blast occurred, Turner said. Those three workers and four others outside or in nearby buildings were injured. All the injuries were minor.
