Local News in Brief : Countywide : Another Bird of Prey Falls Victim of Gunshot

One more bird, an American kestrel falcon, has died after it was found shot in Anaheim, bringing to 31 the number of birds of prey that have been killed or wounded throughout Orange County in a mysterious rash of shootings.
The falcon was discovered late Sunday at the base of a palm tree in a residential neighborhood, but attempts to save the bird were unsuccessful, said Marge Gibson, a wild bird rehabilitation specialist in Villa Park.
She said the falcons, which are solitary predators, often nest in palm trees. These provide protection and food, particularly mice, which also like to nest in them.
