Israeli warplanes struck Palestinian bases in Lebanon’s Shouf mountains, killing two guerrillas. Twenty-six children also were wounded after an elementary school was hit near a Druze village south of Beirut, Lebanese police said. A blackboard in one classroom still listed the day’s subject: “The War.” The wounded guerrillas were members of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a Marxist group that is part of the Palestine Liberation Organization, a police spokesman said. The air strike, which coincided with the front’s 20th anniversary, came five days after the guerrilla group lost three fighters in an attack on Israeli-backed militia members in south Lebanon.
