Southern Section Boys’ Roundup : Mission Prep 56-48 Winner of 1-A Title

Mission College Prep of San Luis Obispo (19-5) defeated Flintridge Prep, 56-48, Friday night at St. Francis High to win the 1-A title and advance to Division V of the Southern California Regional tournament next week.
Don Burns led the way for the Tri-County League champions with 21 points and was aided by teammates Mike Grimes and Alex Sheffield, both with 14 points.
David Swayne, with 13 points, and Shaun Kunisaki, with 10, were the top scorers for Flintridge Prep (15-11).
Mission College Prep gained a seven-point advantage at the half, 30-23.
Bel-Air Prep 64, Newport Christian 58--Ahmad Clayton, a 5-11 guard had a team-high 23 points as Bel-Air Prep opened a 14-point lead midway through the fourth quarter in the Small Schools championship at Pepperdine. John Bahnsen of Newport Christian (21-3), who had been averaging 31 points in the playoffs, was held to 8 points in the first half, but finished with 27. By winning, Bel-Air Prep (20-8) qualified for the Southern California Regional tournament in Division V. Newport Christian, with a record of 21-3, has an excellent chance of qualifying as an at-large team.
